Openluchttheater in Nijverdal (Holland)
Shanties, traditional maritime folk en celtic music !
Enjoy traditional maritime songs, shanties, folk and celtic music from 11:00 AM till 5:00 PM in the pleasant open air theater (Openluchttheater) in the woods near Nijverdal, a small countrytown in the province of Overijssel. There will also be a celtic market and a nice playground for your children. At a cosy terrace you can enjoy food, snacks and nice drinks.
This year we invited some special groups. We are very pleased to present them to you. We believe that the combination of music groups that perform today will guarantee a day with shanty and folk music of high quality. It will certainly appeal to you singing along.
Performing Music Groups
Armstrong's Patent (shanty)
Beithar (medieval Scottish)
Blue Dew (Irish / American bluegrass)
Chris Ricketts & Mark Willshire (maritime folk musik)
Nelson's Blood (shanty)
Shantycrew Buitenboord (shanty)
For more information and a Music Schedule turn to the guide card “Deelnemers” and "Programma".
Open Stage
We have already one group that will perform on the Open Stage:
Quint (Dutch / Irish folk music)
Would you also like to perform on the Open Stage by singing a nice song, play an instrument or perhaps sing with your choir, we would like to invite you to do so. Please let us know in time, so we can arrange the songlyrics.
More activities
There are several possibilities for those who wish to stretch their legs during the festival. There is the celtic market, with Irish and Scottish products and also a stand where you can taste different kinds of whisky. Or you can make a walk in the surrounding woods. At the kiosk you can obtain the description of a nice scenic walk.
When you’re hungry or thirsty you can have a seat at the cosy terrace, where you can buy bread rolls, snacks and drinks at the kiosk, some foodstands and a small bar with beer pump.
Children will be thrilled by the jumping pillow.
Nijverdal lies in an area of outstanding natural beauty. In the same period of time there will be more events. For example, there will be a jubilee concert of the local shantygroup Die Regghesangers on the 7th. of July in the same open air theatre and a concert of the Koninklijke Militaire Kapel Johan Willem Friso on the 8th. Therefore we like to invite you to come to Nijverdal for the whole weekend. There are plenty possibilities to sleep and have a good meal.
Entrance fee and parking
The entrance fee is € 10,--. *
You can park your car for free at the big parking-lot at the corner of the Duivecatelaan. For disabled people there are a few parking places near the entrance of the Openluchttheater.

We use the name LULLABY in the meaning of a rhythmic song to be able to perform some activities in a better way.
A lullaby originally is a rhythmic la-la-la or lu-lu-lu song, a song without words, sung in a specific rhythm with a specific purpose, such as cradling babies to sleep.
It is also used in the way of a heya-heya-heya song, for encouraging some working activities on ships, like the bringing in of the sails or the fishing nets or during the mending of the fishing nets (this is not scientifically proven).
Shanties are, just like lullabies, often working songs, with which the precentor (the shantyman) starts to sing and the working men sing the refrain.
